All rebhecca jewellery pieces are one-of-a-kind and handmade in my home studio along the south coast of Australia. My love of art and creativity started when I was just a child and flourished and deepened as my teen years came and went. During a prolonged time of illness, a friend gave me some old tobacco tins filled with dirty glass beads to tinker with to bide my time. Little did I know that these little “treasure boxes” would open wide a wonder-filled door within me that has not shut since! During a time of darkness in my life, the glisten and sparkle of the glass beads brought beauty into my dark days and gave me a hope that “beauty can indeed come from ashes!” It’s been said that what you go through as a child shapes who you become as you grow up, and I am no exception. I was determined that if I got better, I would help young girls in the world who are being exploited by the cruel dark world of the sex trade industry. My jewellery business, rebhecca, has a heartbeat. Listen closely and you will hear that it exists to reach out and say to the young girls, “You have worth, you are beautiful, there is real hope and there is real unconditional love in this world for you.” I am aware of grass-root level organizations that are directly involved with the rescuing and nurturing of young girls who are sacrificed as little temple prostitutes, or have been sold into being sex slaves. A portion of every sale goes directly to them, ensuring they are fed, safe and nurtured and most importantly – given a true hope.
So, know that when you buy a piece of my wearable artwork that you are making a difference in the life of a young girl who cries out for you to notice and help her.
Each piece of jewellery comes with a pearl incorporated into it, as pearls represent purity, beauty and innocence. These three qualities have meant so much to me in my own life. My desire is to give the girls hope so that they too can experience these qualities as a reality in their own lives. My jewellery is not only for bringing hope to young girls in need, but I also long for every woman who buys a piece of my jewellery to know that they themselves have a beauty within them. No matter what has happened in your life or who you are, you have worth and beauty.
I source as much of my raw materials from fair trade reputable companies that do not use any forced child labor or slavery of any kind. This has been a hard task, but certainly worthwhile! All my fittings are in sterling silver and I incorporate gemstones of all kinds, along with pearls and genuine Swarovski crystals. Eight months ago I set up my own lampworking studio in which I make my own glass beads that I use throughout the pieces.
